Martensitic Transformation and Residual Stresses after Thermomechanical Treatment of Heat Treatable Steel 42CrMo4 (SAE 4140)

چکیده
The influence of thermomechanical deformation on the residual stresses caused by quenching in bar shaped specimens of heat treatable steel 42CrMo4 has been investigated using a mechanical method for detemining the distribution of residual stresses of the first kind. The results obtained show that the residual stress distribution after quenching is dected by the strengthening and softening of the austenite as a result of deformation and recrystallization and the modified transformation behaviour in martensite stage. An attempt is made to discuss qualitatively the influence of these changes on the generation of residual stresses as compared to results obtained after conventional hardening.

Fatigue performance improvement in AISI 4140 steel by dynamic strain aging and dynamic precipitation during warm laser shock peening
Warm laser shock peening (WLSP) is a thermomechanical treatment technique combining the advantages of laser shock peening and dynamic strain aging (DSA). Through DSA, WLSP of steel increases the dislocation density and stabilizes the dislocation structure by pinning of mobile dislocations by carbon atoms. In addition, WLSP generates nanoscale carbide precipitates through strain-induced precipit...

The level of residual stresses generated in fusion welds has been a major area of interest for many years. For steels, a major influence on the final state of stress is through martensitic transformation. This is because the martensitic transformation is accompanied by significant shear and volume strains. One way to mitigate the development of residual stress is by controlling the onset of the...

In this study, stress relaxation phenomenon has been examined generally. Experiments were carried out on carbon steel wires with diameter 8 mm which are particularly used in prestressed concrete composites. Thermomechanically heat treatment was also carried out on this wire in order to relieve the residual stresses accumulated after the cold work. The heat treatment temperature and the stretch ...

Cryogenic treatment can be used as a supplemental treatment that is performed on some tool steels between quenching and tempering as an effective method for decreasing retained austenite and increasing wear resistance. In this research, the effect of deep cryogenic treatment (DCT) on dimensional stability and mechanical properties of 80CrMo12 5 tool steel was investigated. The martensitic trans...
